Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) is India's national crop insurance scheme. It protects farmers against financial losses from crop failure due to natural calamities (drought, flood, cyclone), pests, and diseases. The government subsidises a large portion of the premium.
Kharif crops: maximum 2% of sum insured. Rabi crops: maximum 1.5% of sum insured. Annual commercial/horticultural crops: maximum 5% of sum insured. The balance premium is shared between state and central governments.
Pre-sowing losses, standing crop losses (from sowing to harvesting), post-harvest losses (for 14 days after harvest for crops kept in the field for drying), and localised calamities (hailstorm, landslide, flooding of individual fields).
If you have a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan, PMFBY enrolment is typically automatic. Without KCC: visit your bank, CSC, or use the KrishiPulse app during the enrolment window (before sowing for Kharif, Oct 31 for Rabi). KrishiPulse integrates with PMFBY and can enrol you directly.
