Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense (Foc) — soil-borne fungus
Yellowing starting from the outer leaves and progressing inward. Lower leaves collapse at the petiole. Internal stem shows brown discoloration when cut. Plant eventually dies.
Plant Foc-resistant varieties (Grand Naine/Cavendish has moderate resistance to Foc TR1, but Tropical Race 4 — TR4 — threatens Cavendish globally). Use disease-free tissue culture plants. Practice crop rotation. Avoid moving soil from infected areas.
No effective chemical cure for Panama wilt. Remove infected plants and treat soil with carbendazim drenching. Biological control with Trichoderma viride is partially effective.
