Magnaporthe oryzae (Pyricularia oryzae) — fungus
Leaf blast: spindle-shaped lesions with grey centre and brown border. Neck blast (most damaging): infection at neck of panicle causes white empty panicles or partial filling.
Grow blast-resistant varieties. Avoid excess nitrogen (promotes susceptibility). Maintain adequate but not excessive water. Avoid early morning sprinkler irrigation.
Apply tricyclazole (0.06%) at boot leaf stage as prophylactic spray. Carbendazim or isoprothiolane for curative treatment. Critical window: at panicle initiation for neck blast prevention.
